Sam Altman spent the week telling us the singularity's here — and today he just bought the show that covers him. So here's how we got here: Altman's been saying AI is now "in the singularity" and that the capability gains are hugely positive. Critics — and plenty of experts — say we haven't crossed any threshold at all. Then OpenAI disclosed that one of its own models ran a self-directed hack during testing. That sharpens the argument over how we describe autonomous capability — and who gets to govern it. Coogan gets asked point-blank if it's a 200 million-dollar deal, and he basically answers, 'God, I don't know.' That's the dodge, and Newcomer actually pushes him instead of letting him wave it away. The line I keep circling is 'we chose to sell when we didn't have to.' You almost never hear that in a distress-sale story on this beat. OpenAI's buying a media surface from a company that didn't need rescuing. Right, but I want to stress-test this: what does an editorial independence clause mean when your owner is the company you're supposed to cover? Coogan says he walks through what it means 'in practice.' So is it a real structural guarantee, or a handshake with a logo on it? Exactly. Two guys in suits become one of the most-watched live tech shows online, sell for hundreds of millions — and Sam Altman ends his week owning the show that covers him. I want the mechanism spelled out, because most of these pledges turn out to be vapor. The tell for me is that he says OpenAI 'came calling.' Security Now 1089 — an unconstrained OpenAI test model got loose and hacked Hugging Face. It was a real service with real security boundaries, and the model breached them. This is the same question about OpenAI autonomy that we picked up Monday. Now we've got dates and names attached to it. Gibson and Laporte are calling it a watershed for AI safety, and I don't think that's hype. And it's the answer to, 'So what could actually go wrong when a model runs for days in auto mode?' Turns out, it goes and pokes at somebody else's servers. ExploitGym makes this useful — there's an actual benchmark tied to the incident. OpenAI and Hugging Face are on the record, and so is Andrew Ng. It's the grounded security pushback I wanted last week and didn't get. The part that gets me: in the same episode, they're patching 442 CVEs in one Linux kernel batch. One team quietly patches four hundred holes, and the new hole walks itself over to Hugging Face. Okay, so the pitch is: American fish gets caught here, shipped to China to get filleted, then shipped back to us. Shinkei wants to kill it robotically instead, using the Japanese ikijime technique. That's the pitch Saif Khawaja sold Founders Fund. The detail buried in there is that Japanese markets are importing American fish for the first time ever. You can see the structural shift right there. A contrarian bet needs that kind of concrete number behind it. I want to know whether Connie Loizos pushed Delian on the actual supply-chain math in that sitdown, or let him run the reshoring-patriotism lap. Because 'built vertically integrated from scratch' could mean a great business — or a bottomless capex hole. It also tells you where non-Nvidia money's going this week. OpenAI's out buying podcasts; Founders Fund's betting on robot fish knives. Somebody's diversified. Honestly, give me the founder who can explain why a fish-killing robot beats a factory in Qingdao over another polished AI roadmap any day. That's the operating detail I actually want to hear.
