Clark’s on the World Cup stage, and Indiana’s playoff chase isn’t waiting. Let’s get into it. Quick catch-up before we dig in: Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are representing the Fever with Team USA at the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, with Stephanie White on the U.S. staff. The field includes 70 current and former WNBA players, and the tournament runs Sept. 4 through Sept. 13. Indiana’s break has turned into another stage for its stars. This is Indiana Fever Daily Podcast. Clark gave us plenty to chew on in Berlin—and back home, Mitchell and White have plenty going on, too. From WCCPress:
Clark is one of the headliners for Team USA in the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup. She'll look to dazzle in red for Kara Lawson's bunch, the latest iteration in a string of talent-laden sides to wash ashore at the tournament in years past. The U.S. has won four straight gold medals in the competition and enters the tournament unbeaten in its last 30 World Cup matches.
One point. Zero-for-six. Against Italy. I’m not doing the automatic “she’ll be fine” thing just because the jersey says USA. We’ve gone from roster watch to actual Berlin minutes, and two games in, that Italy line is the first real reality check. Clark needs cleaner touches when the initial action doesn’t open up. And don’t turn 0-for-6 into a personality test. Watch the reads: was she getting downhill, relocating after passes, forcing the pocket pass? That’s the useful stuff. Team USA has the talent to absorb one cold game, but Kara Lawson’s group can’t treat empty Clark possessions as harmless. What matters more is how the offense responds next. Here's Paolo Songco at ChiCitySports:
Stephanie White is a big reason for the Indiana Fever’s turnaround this season. They started 5-5 but are now 26-14 and currently fifth in the standings. She has a talented lineup headlined by Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. The veteran head coach recently opened up about what’s the most satisfying part of coaching her team.
Stephanie White says the payoff is watching players own their growth. Going 26-14 after a 5-5 start makes that case pretty well. In her second stint, she’s gotten a talented roster playing like a team. I love that answer because it’s about accountability. You don’t climb from 5-5 to 26-14 on vibes. Somebody has to embrace a role and do the dirty work, especially when the shots are ugly. And the standings matter here: Indiana is fifth, tied with Atlanta at 26-14, but the Dream own the tiebreaker. Four games left and one game behind Las Vegas for third, so White’s satisfaction is earned—but there’s still work to do. Which is why I’m not handing out the nice framed certificate yet. But after that 5-5 opening? White has every right to be proud of what this group has built. From Paolo Songco at Chi City Sports:
Mitchell leads the Fever in scoring, averaging 25.0 points along with 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals. She has also been available for Indiana all season long, playing all 40 games so far. The 5-foot-8 guard has emerged as one of their leaders since being drafted with the second overall pick in 2018.
Kelsey Mitchell at 25 a night, all 40 games played— that’s the Fever’s engine. While everybody’s staring at Berlin box scores, Mitchell has been clocking in and torching people. And Lexie Hull giving Mitchell that public love fits the season. Mitchell is the league’s second-leading scorer, according to this report, and Chi City notes she’s reached 20 points in 23 straight games. A 5-foot-8 guard playing all 40 and putting up 25.0? That $1.4 million supermax extension is looking extremely non-negotiable. Hull, Clark, and the rest benefit from Mitchell’s gravity, but she deserves the headline herself. A 26-14 record doesn’t happen on a single-player storyline. If you’re enjoying the Indiana Fever Daily Podcast, please subscribe or leave us a review wherever you’re listening.
