Tippy Toes baby food has been pulled over a toxin called patulin — and before anything else: if you've got these pouches, do not feed them tonight. This is Food Recall Watch. Today: a store-brand baby food line, a moldy-apple mycotoxin, and how far it got before anyone caught it. First up — which retailers, which lots, and whether you should toss it or return it. Let's go. Hit follow and you won't have to come looking for the next episode. From Sean Abrams at Delish:
Initiative Foods, operating as IF Copack LLC, has issued a recall of one lot of its Tippy Toes Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree after testing found elevated levels of patulin, a toxin that can develop in moldy fruits.
First thing, parents — if you've got Tippy Toes Apple Pear Banana puree in the drawer, don't feed it to your kid tonight. Pull it, set it aside, then toss it or take it back for a refund. Right — Initiative Foods, operating as IF Copack, recalled one lot of Tippy Toes Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree tubs. FDA testing found elevated levels of patulin, a mold toxin, and the notice says to check the package and stop using it. And here's what gets me — patulin comes from moldy, rotting apples. So the issue points back to the fruit itself, not a sealing screwup on the line: a bad apple made it all the way into a tub of baby food before anyone caught it. That's the raw-ingredient angle. For now it's one lot, sold in nearly every state — so check the exact lot code on your tub. Don't panic over the whole brand. My one frustration — Tippy Toes is a store brand. It sits behind a retailer name, not a national label, so parents need to know which stores carried it. That's the shelf to check.
