Ohtani silences Giants as Dodgers finally stop the skid (May 14, 2026)

Shohei Ohtani walked into San Francisco and reminded everyone why this is still his league. Welcome to Dodgers Daily — and yeah, I’m breathing again after that skid. We’ve got Ohtani shutting up the Giants, Glasnow edging back toward the rotation, and a new outfielder coming in from Arizona — stay with us. Giants fans are going to need a minute. I’m not giving them one. This one's from Sportsnet:

LOS ANGELES — Shohei Ohtani tossed four-hit ball over seven shutout innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers backed the four-time MVP with his most run support of the season in a 4-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night. The Dodgers snapped their season-high skid at four games on a night when Ohtani only pitched and wasn't in the lineup as the designated hitter for the fourth time this season.

The cold-bats skid we were sweating over last time? Gone. Ohtani went seven shutout innings, four-hit ball, ERA down at 0.82. The Giants didn’t score. That’s it — skid over. Espinal and Betts going back-to-back early, Ohtani locking it down — I needed this. Four straight losses was making me lose my mind. And against the Giants? Chef’s kiss. Four games was the season-high losing streak. I know it felt like the apocalypse for some people, but that’s where this roster was. Easy for you to say — you’ve got ice water in your veins. Some of us actually care when this team loses, Cassidy. ClutchPoints, with Joey Mistretta:

Vassegh reports that this was the first time that Glasnow played catch since landing on the injured list. It is certainly a big step in the right direction for the pitcher. The Dodgers will benefit once Glasnow returns without question. The 32-year-old performed well before landing on the IL. He had pitched to a 2.72 ERA across seven outings.

Glasnow played catch Wednesday — first time since the back spasms landed him on the IL. He was at a 2.72 ERA with 49 strikeouts in under 40 innings before he went down. The Dodgers obviously want him back. Playing catch is not coming back, just to be clear. But yes — good — because this offense has been an absolute disaster. Four straight losses, three runs or less in every game. They need arms and bats right now. Back spasms are famously unpredictable, so I’m not penciling him in yet. But a 2.72 ERA is worth waiting for. The rotation is not why they’ve lost four in a row. And of course the skid had to happen in a Giants series. Of course it did. Giants fans are going to be unbearable about this for a month. The Associated Press writes:

The Los Angeles Dodgers added to their outfield depth by acquiring Alek Thomas in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Thomas was batting just .181 with two homers and 10 RBIs when he was designated for assignment by Arizona last week. But the speedy Thomas is a solid defender, and he could be used by Los Angeles as a late-inning defensive replacement and pinch runner.

Dodgers picked up Alek Thomas from Arizona — he was hitting .181 when the D-backs DFA’d him, so this is very much a depth move, not a splash. Speed, glove, late-inning utility. I love this. The Dodgers are literally strip-mining the Diamondbacks for parts. Their trash is our treasure — and honestly, Thomas can run and play defense, which is more than you can say for half the benches in this league. They gave up a low-level outfield prospect and cleared Siani off the roster to make room. It’s not flashy, but that’s how you build depth — quietly, cheaply, and without losing sleep over it.
