The Dodgers are sliding in St. Louis, and the bats have gone quiet — but reinforcements might be on the way. Welcome to Dodgers Daily Fancast — I'm Devin, and I am not okay right now. I'm Cassidy. Today we've got the ugly Cardinals series breakdown, Brock Stewart's return timeline, and a Mookie Betts update you'll want to hear. Jordan Walker goes for four hits against us and suddenly St. Louis thinks they're relevant — let's get into it. First up, this one from X:
Jordan Walker was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2 on Friday night. Walker raised his average to .308, and also scored twice to help the Cardinals to their fourth consecutive victory.
Dodgers drop a third straight, this time 7-2 in St. Louis. Jordan Walker went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs — he basically owned the night. Three in a row. THREE. And Ohtani goes 0-for-5 with a K. I don't want to hear about sample size right now, I am not okay. Still 20-12, Devin. The Cardinals are 19-13 themselves — this isn't some embarrassing loss to a bottom feeder. Sheehan struck out eight and gave up four runs. The offense bailed nobody out. Jordan Walker is not a superstar and he just went 4-for-4 against us — that's the part that stings. Okay, bullpen help — maybe soon. Aaron Coloma at Dodgers Nation has this:
The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be ready to bring back reliever Brock Stewart as soon as Saturday as the Boys in Blue face the St. Louis Cardinals. Stewart returned to the Dodgers at 2025’s trade deadline, but he only pitched in four games before landing on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.
Brock Stewart could be activated as soon as this Saturday against the Cardinals — hat tip to Aaron Coloma at Dodgers Nation for tracking the rehab progression. Nine strikeouts, four-plus scoreless innings in Triple-A, and he cleared the back-to-back test last night. I want to be excited, but this guy has pitched four games for us since coming back at the deadline — four. Shoulder procedure, missed the whole postseason. I need to see him in a real game before I start popping champagne. That's fair skepticism, but the numbers out of OKC are genuinely clean. For a bullpen depth piece, this is exactly the kind of quiet return you want. Depth piece, sure. Just don't hand him the eighth inning in October and act surprised when my blood pressure spikes. And before that game, Cameron Kiszla at Dodgers Nation noted the lineup shuffle:
The Los Angeles Dodgers have tweaked the batting order a bit ahead of the series opener against the Cardinals in St. Louis Friday evening. It’s the Dodgers’ first chance to bounce back after dropping the home series against the Miami Marlins. Looking to get the bats going, manager Dave Roberts has moved a few batters around in the order.
Dodgers open in St. Louis tonight, and Emmet Sheehan gets the ball. He's 2-0, threw 6-plus innings of one-run ball against the Cubs last time out — got the no-decision, but the stuff was clearly there. Ten strikeouts, one run, and they LOST that game? I love this team and I hate this team sometimes. Anyway — Sheehan's breaking ball is literally in the 99th percentile, so Cardinals hitters, good luck. Roberts shuffled the lineup a bit to get the bats going after dropping the home series to Miami. Ohtani's back at DH, Freeman stays at two — so it's mostly tinkering around the edges. Lost to the Marlins at home, now road trip to St. Louis. This is exactly the kind of stretch that used to end badly for us. Sheehan better be filthy tonight. Los Royers had the wider morning check-in, and yeah, it matches the mood:
The Dodgers wrapped up the Marlins series with a loss in the finale, dropping the series after struggling to capitalize on scoring opportunities. It was a stretch where the offense never fully got going.
Los Royers with the morning rundown — Dodgers drop the series to the Marlins, bats still cold, and Mookie's oblique giving him a little more trouble than hoped. Losing a series to the Marlins is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night. The MARLINS, Cassidy. It's May, Devin. Calm down. The good news is Dalton Rushing is apparently making opposing teams nervous, and Sheehan goes to St. Louis in decent form — him and Liberatore are basically a coin flip on paper. Rushing is a bright spot, I'll take it. But if this offense doesn't wake up in St. Louis I'm going to need a doctor's note.
