Rana’s JPMorgan Fight Moves Toward Trial (May 11, 2026)

May 11, 2026 · 2m 8s · Listen

Chirayu Rana isn't settling — so JPMorgan's heading to trial. Welcome to Banker Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Watch. I'm Cassidy, Devin's here, and today we're watching what happens when a plaintiff decides the offer isn't enough. And Citadel and Millennium are apparently paying attention to this one, which tells you the talent market has an opinion JPMorgan probably doesn't love. We'll get into what trial actually changes for both sides — legally and reputationally — right after this. eFinancialCareers writes:

But the WSJ cites 'people familiar with the matter' as stating that Rana's representative requested a $22m settlement from JPMorgan one year ago in May 2025. This was after he first filed his complaint at JPMorgan citing sexual assault and race based harassment involving Laura Hadjdini, a female executive director(ED) at the bank. Hadjini has strongly denied Rana's claims which her lawyer says are "entirely fabricated."

Picking up where we left off last week on the corrected-complaint fight: new WSJ sourcing now puts Rana's settlement ask at twenty-two million dollars, not twelve. That's a pretty big move, and his attorney still hasn't confirmed it. Twelve to twenty-two in one news cycle, and the lawyer still won't touch the number? That's either a leak from the negotiation or a very expensive game of telephone. JPMorgan offered a million in March, which sounds less like 'we believe you' and more like 'please stop saying this out loud.' Rana said no. Now there's a preliminary hearing on the docket. This is going to court. A million-dollar offer when someone's asking twenty-two is basically an insult wearing a suit. JPMorgan knows exactly what they're doing — they're betting he blinks. He didn't. We've put links to every story from today's briefing in the show notes, so if something caught your ear, you can follow it there and read further.
