Utah's sitting on top of the NWSL table, the league's hit pause, and Angel City went into the break at 4-1-5, still below the playoff line. I'm Joey — this is Angel City Daily, and this June break isn't a breather. It's a deadline with a calendar attached. Cassidy here. So for today, we're using the Week 9 table as a hard mirror: Utah climbing, ACFC stuck, Sveindis still out. So what does Straus actually have to fix before this league kicks back off? The IX Soccer, with Kathleen Gier:
After losing their first two matches, the Utah Royals have now strung together a nine-game unbeaten streak to climb to the top of the standings. They are 7-0-2 in that span and have only been shut out once.
Utah's at the top of the NWSL table after Week 9, and they've done it with a 7-0-2 run over their last nine after dropping their first two. That's the standard Angel City has to look at right now, because AC is sitting at 4-1-5 and below the playoff line. Utah lost its opener, just like Angel City did, and then ripped off a nine-game unbeaten run. Angel City went 4-1-5. That's the difference between actually solving problems and just dragging them into the break. And the timing matters, because the league comes back after June and the table doesn't freeze while Angel City waits around. Utah isn't waiting, and neither is anybody else above that playoff line.
