OpenAI hires a Morgan Stanley private-equity guy, and suddenly everyone's writing about an IPO that has no filing, no price, no document. This is AI IPO Watch — and today, one personnel move might tell you more than a prospectus would. It's the same week Morgan Stanley is underwriting a competing AI deal. So which side is the bank actually on? Stick around. Caroline Ryan, writing in Benzinga:
OpenAI tapped former Morgan Stanley executive Alisha Lehr for a private equity-focused role, adding an AI-focused banking veteran to the company bench to help expand relationships with investment firms. Lehr joined OpenAI’s private equity team after nearly nine years at Morgan Stanley, she announced in a post on LinkedIn.
So OpenAI just hired Alisha Lehr away from Morgan Stanley after nine years there, bringing her into a private-equity-focused role. She's there to build relationships with investment firms. That tells you the scaffolding around the cap table is still being built, well before the financials are roadshow-ready. Let me plant the flag before anyone runs with a headline number this week — there's no S-1, no confidential submission, no price range. A LinkedIn post about a hire signals organizational intent. Any valuation attached to it isn't backed by a single document. But here's what got my attention: in the same week Morgan Stanley is co-leading AgiBot's Hong Kong book alongside Citic and CICC, one of its alums lands on OpenAI's PE side. One bank is now touching two competing AI capital stories at once, and the syndicate map tells you more about appetite than any founder's deck does. And follow the timing on the PE angle, Cassidy. If OpenAI's shaping pre-IPO private access now, the pricing that matters is happening before retail's anywhere near it. The asymmetry starts with who gets in this quarter and at what number, well before the bell. Which is a great point that also lives entirely outside any filing. So we watch the hire, we watch the syndicate — and we hold the valuation talk until somebody puts it in writing.
