    • “The title sounds to me like: I am going to spend $1000 in groceries and dance lessons. That is, two very different things lumped together. Memory chips are like groceries, essential commodity parts, a no-nonsense investment. Humanoid robots are like dance lessons, it is cool, it…” Hacker News (223 pts thread)

Our take: We buy the split: memory capacity is an immediate bottleneck with paying customers, while humanoids are a platform bet. But South Korea is also trying to own more of the AI stack than HBM, so the bundle is industrial strategy, not random shopping.

    • “Why humanoid? Surely there must be a superior physical form factor than one mimicking human anatomy. Is it just supposed to be more psychologically acceptable?” Hacker News (223 pts thread)

Our take: Humanoid is a bad default for greenfield factory automation, but it makes more sense if the robot has to use existing tools, aisles, and safety routines. The test is whether Boston Dynamics can beat boring automation on cost per task, not vibes per torso.

    • “> $585B on new fabs, This is how overcapacity happens in a commodity. The is a rush to expand capacity to meet demand, and there will be overshoot. I hope these factories are built quickly so the memory crunch eases.” Hacker News (223 pts thread)

Our take: Yes — memory cycles punish everyone who extrapolates peak demand forever. The counterpoint is that HBM is not generic DRAM, and AI cluster buildouts are supply-constrained now; the risk is that these fabs arrive after the panic.
